I started at my new unit today. I was only supposed to be inprocessing, but I just wanted to get back into it. Before today I hadn't wrenched on anything except my car for a good minute. To my credit I also have a ridiculous work ethic.

It's funny how good of friends you are with someone that you previously barely interacted with, once you are both in a new and unfamiliar situation. I mean, I've noticed it before, but not to such an extreme as I'm seeing here. All of these people who are coming to Baumholder from 1-1 CAV are sticking to each other like crazy glue and getting on with conversations about the "the cav" and "oh yea that one time in graf..." when in fact that one time in graf really wasn't that remarkable, and all we did back in Buedingen was bitch about it.

That's also something funny... a soldier's bitching capabilities.

Our new apartment is fairly nicer than our old one. It's the same size, but this one has 110V power outlets, and our own laundry room. Which is very exciting for me. The novelty of a shared laundry room in the basement wears off after a few minutes. That's what we had at our old apartment. The only thing I really don't like is that, while we are on the first floor(again ^^), there is about 2 or 3 flights of stairs just getting from the curb to the front door of the building. So really it's like living on the third floor. See above about bitching. The good thing is that the extra elevation affords us a fairly nice view of the countryside. Yes, we live in the country, and it's all hills. And I know what you're thinking. "Oh, that must be such a lovely view!"

Well it's not so lovely when you have to run those motherfuckers.

Well, I decided the other day after a brief visit to the local BMW dealership that I need a new car. Soon afterwards I realized that a BMW is a little bit out of my price range. So, I've concluded that I'm either going to get a Mazda3, Honda Civic, or a Toyota Matrix. I'm leaning a little more towards the Mazda.

I've read a few people's journals just now, and I realized that their journals are quite a bit easier to read than mine. Because normally I write my entries like I am speaking them, with complete disregard for proper capitalization, grammar, spelling, etc. Well that's about to change. I hope this has a spell checker.

I enrolled in a class yesterday. I'm a little bit nervous because the last time I tried to partake in any kind of civilian schooling, I failed miserably...a few times. But I'm also excited and proud of myself for actually doing something to make myself a better person, instead of just the PT-work-sleep zombie routine.

And I'm finally getting around to actually getting out to see Germany. I've been here for a damn year and a half of another, and I really haven't been anywhere. There are tons of old Roman ruins and those types of things that are within a 30 minute drive from where I live. I find them on Google Earth. They aren't really that exciting, but its amazing to just be there. Like last weekend, we went to Glauberg, a close by town, which has a hill that has been used, because of it's plateau on the top, as a gathering place/town/city/castle/etc since around 500AD. I was there. I saw ruins of old buildings that were there, and I picked a flower for Ginny. There's also a tomb of a dead guy there.

I'd like to write about what's going on at work right now, but it would be a violation of OPSEC, and I really don't want to OPSEC Linebacker to fuck me up. For those of you who don't know the OPSEC Linebacker, he is a ginormous guy who will actually come to where you are just to tackle the shit out of you on the spot, and smash the device that you are using, whether a phone or a computer or whatever, on your face. He's from the Navy, and there are commercials about him on the TV.

Well, I have to go watch American Idol now, but I want to show everyone the video I made for my platoon. It's a series of pictures of us from the field and stuff.

theres so much stuff that happens in my life that i wish i could remember to annotate on here for everyone to read. im sorry that i dont publish more livejournal entries, because my life is very intresting and exciting.
im thinking about deleting my myspace account. partly because its so popular now, its getting gay....you know like MTV. you know its gay but you still watch it and stuff because its the best thing you got. right, just like that. also because ginny did it, and i think we could actually start a whole movement.
i've noticed that things are a whole lot cooler and worth while if you start a movement for pretty much anything you do. like one time, at work, i had to take a shit....and i hate pooping at work because the latrine down at the motorpool is gross. but anyway....i was all like "HEY....who wants to go poop with me?!?!?!?!" and everyone was like "AAHHHHH I DO RRAARRRR" so we made a mass movement down to the latrine and all pooped together. it was amazing. try it sometime, it makes life that much more fun!
in other news...i went to Graf one more time. it was pretty much a waste of time, and nobody was motivated about anything....because the SCO(our head boss) was like "yea, we are closing down", right at the first week of it. who is going to want to be out there for no reason? its dumb. and i dont really have a job anymore, because we arent allowed to work on any vehicles because of turn in. only civilians can touch them now. its scary, i turned in my toolbox last week ;(

so i learned this morning(after ginny set all the clocks in the house forward an hour) that european daylight savings actually runs on a different schedual than the states. :-O
it doesnt take effect until the FOURTH sunday of march. who would have guessed? thats where i got all the extra time to write this.

we had a barbeque last night for one of our guys that is leaving today. it was fun, i ate about 25 ribs and 2 cheeseburgers and 2 hotdogs. also a crapload of beer and some vodka mixed with a redbull slushi. oh btw im fat.

so anyway, back to the subject at hand....lets have a movement against myspace.

everyone delete thier myspaces and move totally to livejournal. it will be awesome. we can get a cool slogan or something to make us feel great about it!

well donovans awake, so im going to go play with him for a minute before i goto work.

LAST AND FINAL NOTE FROM THE O/C's

We the O/Cs(G26A, and W26A), would like to take this moment to tell all.
These last two weeks we've seen a lot of eager and motivated soldiers in the Maintenance field...thier motivation was enough to fill the voids of the rest of the Squadron. These are fine, outstanding soldiers that need to be recognized. I hope that who ever reads this understands and realizes just that.
During the X-Days of this rotation, these soldiers put in 200+% out in the field. Thier environment was one of the most challenging I've ever seen in a long time. But without blinking an eye, these soldiers - mechanics, never gave up. I'd get up in the morning to start my rounds and to find mechanics with dirty faces and oil on there hands from working the night before just so they could get more combat vehicles out into the battle - no one else in the Squadron did more to help the Squadron train during this rotation.
We've seen the frustrations on their faces when things didn't work like they should have, and they joy of seeing the vehicle leave from the work they had just done on it just to see it come back again with something else wrong.
These mechanics deserve out gratitude and respect, from the most senior leaders of the Squadron down to the lowest vehicle driver, because they have ours.
This is our last and final word to the 1-1 Cavalry. Keep up the good work, and lead forward from the front, for they can't surpass you.

The proud can't ride if maintenance don't provide.

G26A and W26A, out.

So yea, if yall didn't know, I've been in the field for the past month of May. It was shitty and fucking sucked ass. Basically, we all put on laser gear and on our vehicles and everything, and fought a unit that lives there(1-4 Infantry). They killed us during the first phase(defense), but when we got to go on the offense we annihilated them in like 2 days. So yea, we pretty much rock. Apparently they only get beat like twice a year. The O/Cs are "observer, controllers" who pretty much run the show. They make sure people play fair and they kill people and things. They just drive around in thier humvees and chill basically, while we do shitty crap all day. Anyway, I'm back now and trying to get ginny and donovan here. I move into housing on the 19th, so they'll be here shortly after.

Anyways, I'm out. gotta go eat something. im fatty
